Johannesburg, Gauteng – The diverse and multi-talented DJ’s and producers Rafiki Rhythms from Dobsonville, Soweto is here to take over 2024 with their fourth studio project titled ‘Sounds of Rafiki’, dropping on the 26th April 2024 on all popular online music stores.
This triple threat trio is heavily diverse with production and mixing skills to combine different sounds into one. Aptly titled ‘Sounds of Rafiki’ this extended play caters to more than one music fanatic, the trio collaborates various homegrown vocalists including Hassan Mangete, Humble Moose SA and Nanka Zalet just to name a few.
They kick us off on a gospel piano vibe, with ‘Khanyisa’, featuring Bridgie The MC and Nkuli_Sings. “This a song which asks for blessing and light from God and our ancestors. As people we believe in different sources of life, but in this instance we wanted to highlight ours. When we are seeking inspiration and change from the ones above, we are truly seeking light, which is the essence of this song.”
They follow it up with ‘Yahweh’, an Arabic word that means “We Praise”. “Beautifully sang by Nanka Zalèt this song is inspired by our everyday lives, taking each day as an opportunity to wake up and do it again. It relates to God restoring what we have lost and leading us to the light.”
‘Uzolimala’ a song about “Umjolo, the Dating”. Skillfully delivered by Hassan Mangete and Sabelo Ncala this is a song for people who continuously get hurt, cheated on and deceived by their partners. The theme of this tune is – Jola, at your OWN Risk!!.
‘Sabela’ is a song about heartbreak, a story of a person who falls in love but feels that their relationship is one-sided and that they are the only one putting in effort. If you have ever related to a situation like this one, then is song is for you. Again Hassan Mangete and Sabelo Ncala shine through with their vocal prowess.
As’ hambe Ke … ‘Bamb’inja’ is for our leaders, the ones who do not take no for an answer, those who will do whatever it takes to get what they want, the heroes of their generation, who stop at nothing. Those who do not let their fears stop them from bringing bread home, BAMB’INJA.
Closing it off with ‘iSpaan’ an upbeat Sgija instrumental laced with chants and rhythmic percussions. song is for those who want better for themselves, those who work tirelessly for their families, those who hustle for prosperity and freedom. This tune is dedicated to people who do not give up on themselves, iSpaan is for our fellow breadwinners, our strong soldiers and hard hustlers, those who dare to DREAM, BELIEVE and ACHIEVE.
